His name was Amr and surname was Abu Umayyah. His father's name was Umayyah bin Khuwalid . In the very beginning of Islam, Hazrat Amr bin Umayyah was a great rival of Muslims. In the battle of Badr and Uhud, he stood by the side of infidels of Makkah and showed great courage and bravery. After the battle of Uhud, he came to the Holy Prophet and embraced Islam :
i. Ambassador of Islam in the court of Najashi
Diplomacy plays an important role in the foreign policy of any country. Economic and political relations are established with other countries through it. In 6 Hijri, Prophet Muhammad sent Hazrat Amr bin Umayyah to the king of Abyssinia with a letter of invitation to Islam. In this letter, Najashi was invited to Islam and was requested to entertain the migrants. Moreover it also contained a proposal of Nikkah with Hazrat Umme Habiba . Najashi, at the invitation of the Holy Prophet , embraced Islam at the hands of Hazrat Jafar bin Abi Talib
ii. Participation in Sariyah
Hazrat Amr ibn Umayyah also participated in a Sariyah upon the order of the Holy Prophet . On the order of Abu Sufyan, an Arab tried to kill the Messenger of Allah in the Prophet's Mosque. The Holy Prophet realized his intention even before he attacked and the Companions also arrested him. As the main motive behind this conspiracy was Abu Sufyan, so the Holy Prophet sent Hazrat Amr bin Umayyah and Hazrat Salma Bin Aslam to Makkah to finish Abu Sufyan, but due to the reason that the Quraish of Makkah became aware of this news, these people came back. On their way back home, they meet Abullah bin Malik and a man from Banu Huzail. Hazrat Amr bin Umayyah killed Abdullah.Hazrat Amr bin Umayyah was distinguished among the arabs for his bravery andvalour.
iii. Death
He died in 60 Hijri during the reign of Hazrat Muawiyah.He was buried in Madina Munawara. There are 20 hadiths narrated by Hazrat Amr bin Umayyah. The life of Companions of the prophet are a source of guidance of the Prophet for us. We should lead our lives in obedience of Allah and the Holy Prophet so that we might be successful in this world and the hereafter.
